Lynsay wanted to allow Taffy, her retriever to come and go as he pleases so decided on a dog flap in the back door, and a gate at one side of the house, and a fixed fence at the other. She already had an old gate made from larch, it just needed hinges and mounting posts.
Next is the fence at the other side. I start by digging a deep hole, about 20" and put in a 3"x 3" post, using Postcrete and attach a treated 3" x 2" to the opposing wall using hammer fixings.
Next the dog flap. I'd never fitted one before so carefully read the instuctions and had it in place
in an hour or so. I was well proud of myself until Lynsay pointed out that I'd overlooked something.
Well it only took five minutes to sort it, every day is a school day.
So in summary Taffy can nip out to his compound any time he likes, and Lynsay knows he's safe, and can't wander off.
