I recently did some pruning and felling work for Eric Jolly at West Mains of Turin Farm. Nothing exciting about pruning but felling gets the adrenaline rushing. This was a 80ft larch that was going to come down in the next gale so I had to fell it. I don't like felling healthy trees but the field is used for livestock and a fallen tree can injure or kill animals, or take down the fence allowing them to escape. I had to fall this one from about ten feet up because any lower and it would hit the fence. It fell exactly where I wanted it to and will give someone a warm house next winter.
Snedding off the limbs.
This was a small tree on a bad bend in the road and was notorious for removing tractor mirrors so it had to go....
